Revisiting this image .......I arrived at the nest site at mid-day and was impressed with the unique perspective into the nest and the interaction possibilities - but the three subjects never came together ! It was hours later in the late afternoon before they finally DID ! - and, worth the wait 8-) Still, even in retrospect, a very impressive image ......

This is so wonderful Larry! The color and details are excellent! I'm smiling at the pose -- looks like Mom is listening intently to the little guys chatter - so cute! fv

Another rare shot for an often photographed bird. Its the angle you have on the nest that's great here too. Makes me feel like I'm in the tree top looking at it all. great shot! vfg

Larry, this is a fantastic photo and story! One hatchling is saying, "Why?" and the other is saying, "I don't understand."! v/f

Thanks Christy ! - I knew what I wanted and waited a long time to obtain this.....

Thanks so much Kym Blackland ! I was relieved and thankful after waiting intermittently for 6 hours ! - The lighting was better anyway the later I waited.... The parent burped a tiny bit of food - they ate quickly and then went back to sleep.

Cornell Lab of Ornithology has cameras set up at their blue heron nests and their red tailed hawk nests and you can watch 24/7 and see the pips and hatching and parental care. It is amazing to watch.

Thanks Rosanne ! I have a similar image on film from 20 years ago hanging on my wall but wanted/needed a digital version to share. They do grow very FAST. I must say it has been somewhat of a challenge to obtain these.....

We have a lot of Blue Heron's and I have a lot of shots--but never seen the babies---and not sure I am going to put on gear to go find them--and I am not as patient as you are--to wait all day. Everyone needs to see this one--too -- too cute! Love it! Now what do you think that little one is saying to his brother?
Larry Nieland replied:
Thanks for the insightful comment Nava Jo ! - He is saying : "NOW, it is my turn ! "
